Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Cathedral Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to roll out January Term (J-Term) selections next week during our Activity Period!  As previously shared, from January 3 through January 14, students will take a break from their regular classes and immerse themselves in a single subject of their choosing. From Wearable Electronics to Preparing for Life in Athletics, from Farm Life to Yoga and Creative Life, and from Job Shadowing to Fashion Week, and many more, our J-Term topics will offer the opportunity to learn something new, possibly travel, and focus on a unique subject. Depending on the J-term class your child chooses, they may be able to travel, hear outside speakers, explore their creativity, learn new skills, and focus on community needs through experiential learning.  J-Term classes will be on student transcripts and are a requirement for graduation, but it does not affect their GPA.

J-Term will offer our students the ability to explore curiosities and allow for some balance and time to explore things that they may be interested in learning at a deeper level.  This time will also give our students opportunities to immerse themselves in hands-on experiences of applied learning and unconventional teaching that they might not have during the regular school year. We will ignite passions, help direct our students to explore aspirations and interests, and give some time for our students to breathe. This will also provide our teachers the opportunity to share their unique gifts and talents apart from the subjects they teach at Cathedral.

All freshmen will have a designated Freshman J-Term that will offer a broad spectrum of experiences with one another, so no registration is required.

Upperclassmen will choose their J-term class next week during our Day 3 activity period on October 19th.  Senior, Junior, and Sophomore students will have the opportunity to sign up for two one-week courses or one two-week course.  Please note that the students’ first pick is not guaranteed as most classes will be capped.  Seniors will register first, then a few minutes later, the link will open to Juniors, and then lastly, Sophomores.  Please note, some classes have additional fees.

J-Term will set Cathedral students apart by providing these unique opportunities during these two weeks in early January.

2.) have a strong desire to get involved with the CAP program
3.) have an interest in military academies and/or military or civilian careers in aviation or aerospace.
