Dual credit courses provide students the opportunity to enroll in college classes and obtain a college transcript while in high school. The courses are taught by Cathedral faculty who have earned certification/approval through the college in order to serve as an adjunct faculty member for the college. Students have the opportunity to graduate from Cathedral High School with a college transcript.

Course Description:
Literary Interpretation is a one-semester Indiana University course designed to help students learn how to read, think, and write critically and cogently about literature. Students will study four genres—poetry, short story, the novel, and drama—to understand how the various elements of a work of imaginative literature cohere to impart meaning. A large portion of the course will focus on how to write about literature; students will learn how to translate close reading skills into strong critical essays, writing three major papers, as well as short assignments (micro-themes). The class will be discussion-based, and vigorous and insightful explorations of the poetry and fiction studied are expected, as well as impeccable attendance and assignment submission. The cost of this course is $75 plus textbook fees, which students purchase directly through the IU Bookstore (directions will be provided). The ACP student should be highly motivated to work independently and in small groups. Participation in all class discussions is essential and expected of all students. Please be aware that I.U. policy with regard to submission of assignments and assignment requirements supersedes those of Cathedral High School for this course.

Students who have successfully completed Academic English 11 have the option of taking the course only with the permission of the course instructor. A writing sample will be required.
Course Description:
W131 is a one-semester Indiana University course that offers instruction and practice in the critical reading and writing skills required for college-level work, with an emphasis on written assignments that call for summary, critique, analysis, and arguments based on largely nonfiction sources. The purpose of this course is to prepare students for the rigor of writing throughout college. The focus is on scholarly investigation of sources, critical thinking and reading, and learning how to recognize and utilize specific writing strategies and skills. Since much work and discussion will be carried on in class, impeccable attendance and assignment submission are imperative. The ACP student should be highly motivated to work independently and in small groups. Participation in all class discussions is essential and expected of all students. Students will write four micro-themes and three major papers over the course of the semester, and the scores from these papers will constitute 90% of the student’s grade. The third major paper is a 6-7 page research paper that will also serve as the final exam. The cost of this course is $75 plus textbook fees, which students purchase directly through the IU Bookstore (directions will be provided).Because of the unique content within this course, the English Department will not allow any withdrawals from this class (including academic level changes) after Labor Day of each year. Course Description:
This course from Indiana University prepares students in the liberal arts to communicate effectively with public audiences. Emphasizes oral communication as practiced in public contexts: how to advance reasoned claims in public; how to adapt public oral presentations to particular audiences; how to listen to, interpret, and evaluate public discourse; and how to formulate a clear response. Credit is given for only one of P155, CMCL-C 121, or SPCH-S121. P155/S121 class size is capped at 24 students, regardless of how many are taking the course for college credit. Course Description:
This is a dual credit advance level course in economics delves deeper into the concepts of economic thinking than an introductory course. It is designed to give the student the competencies needed to succeed in a university study of economic fundamentals. The course centers around a survey of both micro and macroeconomics through a detailed study of economic concepts and modeling. The student will come away with an in-depth knowledge of a firms decisions in regards to supply and demand and the elasticity of each component. They will also master the pricing and allocation mechanisms demonstrated by industries and firms. There will be a detailed study of the factors of production and product markets and how they determine the individual’s rational decisions. The student will also study macro concepts involving market measuring and stabilization. Studies will revolve around fiscal policy and monetary policy. They will examine in detail different budgeting policies and their consequences as well as how best to control inflation and the supply of money to ensure economic growth and prosperity. This class will not count as college macro- or microeconomics for those pursuing a B.S. in business from Purdue University.

The Course will follow a curriculum of Classical Latin during the Late Republic and Early Imperial Time Period. Students will read Julius Caesar’s memoirs from the Gallic Wars and Vergil’s Aeneid. Students will read Vergil’s Aeneid in both translation and Latin. Poetry and writing from various other Classical Roman writers will be studied. Scansion of the poetry is learned and recited. Poetic devices and figures of speech are taught. Students are eligible to join the National Junior Classical League.

Course Description:
Heritage Spanish 2 has been designed to help heritage speakers continue with their formal study of Spanish. Students will review and recycle the most challenging grammar topics, spelling and accent work, study of register and expand their vocabulary in order to continue building confidence and skill in writing in Spanish for academic and creative purposes. Students will expand their writing in Spanish to include three additional types of text: descriptive, comparative/contrasts, and narrative. Additional goals are to increase reading comprehension, stimulate students’ interpretive and analytical skills and include a greater variety of literary formats and styles to enhance reading strategies and skills. The topics covered in this course include but are not limited to immigration, education, employments, role models and heroes and world challenges. In addition, students will continue their exploration of cultural identity and heritage via topics about their own history and cultural traditions as well as those of others. The goal is to validate the linguistic and cultural experiences and influences of their bilingual and bicultural upbringing while also building their academic skills in Spanish in order for them to feel confident in their use of the language for different settings and prepare them for college.

Course Description:
Heritage Spanish III is designed to provide heritage students with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures and develop a metalinguistic understanding of the language. It is a continuation of the goals of Heritage Spanish I and II but at an advanced level. Students will review and recycle the most challenging grammar topics and vocabulary in order to continue building confidence and skill in writing in Spanish. Along with continuing the study of language, grammar, spelling, and accents, register and dialects, the course will engage heritage learners in exploring social and contemporary topics with a variety of readings from newspapers, magazines, essarys and online media as well as increased literary analysis of novels, poetry, and films. One of the main objectives of this course is to continue to develop strong writing skills in Spanish. Students will practice not only argumentative writing, but also practical writing, such as writing a cover letter or an article or a response to an editorial. Each writing task is composed of several steps including research, possible interviews, an outline, a rough draft, revisions and peer reviews, a final version, an oral component and class discussion. The course also involves shorter writing assignments, oral activities, and discussions on important cultural topics and current events. Students have the opportunity to interact in Spanish with members of their communities, discuss topics that are relevant to their interests and fields of study, as well ass write, speak and present on these topics. The goal so this course is to both prepare and empower students to apply their bilingual/cultural knowledge in academic and future professional settings.
